Dear Wonderful UUI Families,
Children notice differences, and they notice them early. With our culture the way it is, that means it’s important to be proactive in providing anti-bias, anti-racist, multicultural education as early, as often, and as consistently as possible.
This week in our Religious Education Classes, we will be engaging in age appropriate lessons about difference, identity, representation, and the need for everyone to have a voice.
This week, Jamie’s sermon will be "Until it is Faced, Part 2.” James Baldwin said "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." Events of the last month, nationally and here in Indiana, have reminded us of the terrible sickness of racism that still pervades our country. What would it require to heal us of this longstanding ill? What is our part as a religious community and as individual UUs? And what is being done now at UUI? .
That’s heavy, but I’m sure you’ve been feeling that on your own. Come and process this with your church family! We have important work to do; let’s do it together!
Peace and Love,
Susanne Hinson-Rieger
Director of Lifespan Religious Education
